34 Johnson County Students Win Prestigious National Merit Scholarships

Another group of Johnson County students linked to the university received some good news this week.

Thirty-four Johnson County students learned on Wednesday that they had won prestigious national scholarships this year.

They are among more than 3,100 scholarship winners nationwide who were selected from a list of approximately 16,000 finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced this latest round of scholarships on June 2. In a previous round announced in May, 19 Johnson County students won scholarships.

The scholarships offer between $ 500 and $ 2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study at the student educational institution that funds the scholarship, according to a press release.

This year, 160 higher education institutions are awarding merit scholarships under the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Another group of winners will be announced in July, bringing the total number of merit scholarship recipients sponsored by colleges in the 2021 competition to approximately 4,000.
