DONALD LAING Obituary (2022) – Toronto Star

LAING, DONALD WILLIAM The Reverend Dr. Donald William Laing, passed away quietly, in Toronto, on March 29, 2022, at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his parents, his 51-year-old first wife Margaret (née Sloan) and his sister Gaynor Nelson. Don is survived by his beloved wife Judith Jones and their children: Robert Laing, Deborah Laing, Catherine Drader, Robert Jones, Kathryn Jones-Mollod, Matthew Jones, Timothy Jones, Susannah Jones, Beth Jones, their partners, ten- eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Don was born and raised in Weston, Ontario, moved to Saskatchewan and Alberta, for most of his adult years earning college degrees culminating in a Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland. The Laings served the United Churches of Saskatchewan in Leask, Cabri, Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Edmonton, AB. Don held many positions in the church before and after his retirement. He was the author of three Christian worship and education books for Scouts Canada and was an enthusiastic member and leader. A memorial service for Don will be held at St. James United Church, Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., led by Reverend Maya Douglas. In lieu of flowers, your friends can make memorial donations to the United Church of Canada, St. James United Church in Etobicoke, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
