Exploration of education event connects area families with education options


The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many families around the world to reassess their child’s education. Many were forced to home school as schools closed; others continued in public school with restrictions on how often and how their children would be educated. According to the US Census Bureau, the situation has led many people to view home schooling as an ongoing option. Others have considered private education for the first time.

In response to this change, and to members of the congregation and community who are looking for options for their children, Saint Mark’s Church in downtown Geneva is hosting Education Exploration on Saturday, June 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The open house style event will feature speakers from the Illinois Family Institute, Christian home educators from Illinois, a former Chicago Public School teacher turned home schooled mom and a young adult panel who have received home schooling or private Christian education.

A resource zone will accommodate 13 Christian high schools and private high schools and 8 home education groups. Families will have the opportunity to speak with these representatives to learn more about what they offer and how to enroll / start homeschooling. The event is free and childcare is provided for children under 5 years old. Parking will be available around the church and at Geneva train station.
