NATCHITOCHES, La. – Northwestern State University, Louisiana State University of Alexandria, Central Louisiana Technical Community College, Louisiana Christian University and the City of Alexandria will present Rock Your Future College Ready Expo beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, March 25, corner of Third and Murray Streets under the clock.
The Rock Your Future College Ready exhibit is designed to help parents and high school students, as well as recent high school graduates, get information about enrollment, financial aid, learn more about college life and explore various career paths. On-site assistance will be available to help you complete the FAFSA financial aid form. Organizers point out that the program helps students prepare for college and focus on their careers.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Downtown Rocks performance featuring Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs.
“Central Louisiana is fortunate to have so many outstanding educational options for students,” said Alexandria Mayor Jeff Hall. “Students have local options to obtain a four-year degree or to obtain professional training and a work title to enter the labor market more quickly. Or they can do both, get a working degree and build on that later as they continue their education. The important thing is that students understand what their options are and how they can apply for financial aid to make their dreams a reality. That’s the goal of the Rock Your Future College Ready exhibit: to provide students and parents with the information they need to make a decision on how best to further their education and pursue a productive professional career.
“The Northwestern State University Cenla Campus teaching site, located on England’s Airpark in Alexandria, is a responsive, student-oriented institution committed to the creation, dissemination and acquisition of knowledge through teaching and service,” said Jason Parks, Executive Director. of the Alexandria Campus. “The Alexandria teaching site serves the central region of Louisiana and contributes to the education, development, and global experiences of students by locally offering support services as well as instruction through a variety of delivery methods , including face-to-face video, compressed video and online delivery. , which contribute to the labor needs of our employers and our community. Northwestern State University prepares its students to be productive members of society and promotes economic development and improved quality of life for citizens in its region.
“LSUA is a high-quality local option for Alexandria and Pineville families seeking an affordable college degree at the LSU system’s flagship campus right here at home,” said Dr. Paul Coreil, Chancellor of the LSUA. “After graduating from high school, students can pursue high-demand degrees at LSUA that lead to successful careers and high-paying jobs in aviation, nursing, home administration healthcare, education, computing, law enforcement, wildlife management, pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary medicine, accounting, agricultural business, communications, chemistry, cybersecurity, inter others. LSUA is at your fingertips – without limits!”
Heather Poole, executive vice-chancellor of the CLTCC, noted that technical community colleges could be a new option for many families.
“Choosing to go to college is more than a decision, it’s a process,” Poole said. “Many take the time to better understand this process, which is why events like ‘Rock Your Future College Ready Expo’ are important for families to help identify a clear path to post-secondary education. This is just one of the reasons why it is important for parents and students to familiarize themselves with these options, which can be completed from a few months to two years to obtain certificates, diplomas and degrees.
LCU Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Cheryl D. Clark said, “Louisiana Christian University is thrilled to be a part of ‘Rock Your Future’ to provide students and families with important information to help them navigate successfully to higher education. Often, especially for first-generation students, the application process and even the terminology can be intimidating and confusing. LCU would therefore like to break the process down into an easy step-by-step process that will ensure a smooth transition from high school to University.”
“We plan to showcase all that LCU offers to help students succeed, such as our 4-week Summer Bridge Program which offers English, Math and Study Skills lessons to help bridge the gap for a student who may need a stronger foundation for college preparation,” she said. “In addition, students are often worried about needing extra help with difficult subjects. LCU provides an exceptional academic success center that houses a writing center, math center, and tutoring in all subjects. Additionally, students often struggle to declare a major and may not understand what opportunities are available with a particular major. LCU’s Call and Career Center offers a free career assessment that examines a student’s values, interests, and activities to match career options.
