PA Department of Education Celebrates New School Year at Kutztown Area High School

Kutztown, Pennsylvania – Department of Education Deputy Executive Secretary Dr. Debora Carrera visited the Kutztown Area School District today to celebrate the start of the new school year and speak with students and teachers what they are most looking forward to this year.

“Commonwealth schools are back and students can’t wait to get back to the classroom to learn with their friends and teachers,” Dr Carrera said. “It is an exciting time for students and teachers as we begin to return to some normality this school year. Things have not always been easy, but our students, teachers, administrators and staff have been resilient and we are so happy to see all their smiling faces, ready to face a new year!”

Since 2015, the Wolf administration has increased education funding by more than $3.7 billion. In his latest budget, Governor Tom Wolf reinforced his commitment to education at all levels with a historic investment increase of $1.8 billion. This budget prioritizes resources for Pennsylvanians and helps provide students with the resources they need to succeed.

Pupils across the Commonwealth have returned to school over the past few weeks, and headteachers were just as excited as pupils to be back in the classroom.

“The Kutztown Area School District is thrilled to welcome Dr. Carrera. We are proud of the opportunities for growth and excellence that we share with our students and community and grateful to share them with the Pennsylvania Department of Education,” said Superintendent Christian Temchatin. “Quality public education is the foundation of our great country. Dr. Carrera’s visit represents the collaboration and support of local schools at the state level.

The Kutztown Area School District serves approximately 1,330 students in its four schools. It encompasses the communities of Kutztown, Lyons, Maxatawny Township, Greenwich Township, Lenhartsville and Albany Township.
