Pastor Robert J. “Robby” King, 67, of Madison, Indiana, died Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

He was born on September 13, 1954 in Danville, Indiana, to Ronald and Rosemary Stackhouse King. As a youth, he attended and was a member of the Hanging Rock Christian Assembly in West Lebanon, Indiana, where he felt the call of the Lord to become a minister. He graduated in 1972 from Danville High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Johnson Bible College in 1976.

He became a youth minister at Homeville Christian Church in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, where he met and married Chricket Christy Aubrey on May 5, 1978 in Ogle, Pennsylvania.

In 1980, he became the first youth pastor at First Christian Church in Carmi, Illinois, before moving to Knoxville, Tennessee six years later. He spent the next three years as director of Christian education at West Towne Christian Church, before returning to First Christian in Carmi as senior minister for the next 16 years.

He then served a short-term ministry at South Hickory Hill Christian Church until he moved to Madison, Indiana, as discipleship pastor at North Christian Church. Madison, where he was instrumental in the implementation of Small Groups, Disciple University and Starting Point. He enjoyed leading Bible study groups, mentoring guys of all ages, doing hospital rounds, and serving as camp dean of the church for over 25 years. He also made several short-term mission trips to Saltillo, Mexico, Papua, New Guinea, Ghana and Liberia in Africa. In his spare time, he enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren with extracurricular activities, vacationing in the Smoky Mountains and Disney World, and more recently, regularly meeting his brothers for lunch. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Purdue University football and basketball teams.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years from Madison; his children, Rachel Brolsma of Noblesville, Indiana and Bart King of Carmi; his brothers, Randy King, of Indianapolis and Rusty King of Brownsburg, Indiana; his grandchildren, Aubrey Brolsma, Gabby Brolsma, Isaac King, Ellie King, Bailey Brolsma, Caleb King and Esther King; and his nieces and nephews and other family members.

His parents predeceased him.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at the North Madison Christian Church in Madison. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12 at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Visiting hours are from 2 p.m. until the time of Sunday services at the church.
