ULM Bayouval Music Festival for the benefit of the School of Visual Arts and Spectacles

MONROE, Louisiana (KNOE) – The ULM is organizing the very first Bayouval Music Festival on Friday, September 17. The name of the festival comes from the fusion of “bayou” and “festival”.

This is a fundraising effort to help support and secure more funding for the School of Visual and Performing Arts at ULM.

The event kicks off Friday at 3:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting naming the newly renovated band room in honor of former band director Jack White and his wife Coralie.

It will be followed by a patronal evening with music from the ULM jazz ensemble and an art exhibition sale.

The main event will take place inside Bayou Pointe from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Code Blue and the Flatliners and a few surprise artists.

The goal is for the event to fund VAPA scholarships.

“A scholarship is considered fully funded if it is $ 25,000 because it generates enough funds each year to really be of benefit to the students. One of the main functions of the foundation is to try to ensure that students have opportunities in the various study programs here on campus. They identified five that we want to try to get funding for first, ”said VAPA director Derle Long.

The ULM hopes that the first Bayouval Music Festival is just the beginning and will develop throughout the year with different types of music.

“Dr. Mark Clark has set up a production of The Glass Menagerie. You can find tickets for this event on Eventbrite. It will be next Thursday, Friday, Saturday, with Sunday matinee as well. Later in the semester we will have a Pirates of Penzance production and then there are all kinds of concerts and recitals, ”Long said.

Long says they are excited to resume the live performances as the audience commentary helps the musicians and performers.

Tickets: $ 10 for ULM students with ID, $ 25 general admission, $ 100 manager’s evening
