A former student of Acton Elementary School will now lead this school as principal.
Maggie Walton will replace Karla Willmeth, who will take on a new role as Deputy Director of Curriculum, filling the position vacated by Trisha Suitt.
Walton has worked in public education for 14 years. Eleven of those years were spent at Acton Elementary, where she attended kindergarten through third grade.
The Granbury native and Granbury High School graduate is the daughter of Bruce Baird, founder of the Granbury Dental Center.
Walton received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, then earned a graduate degree from Texas Christian University and a postgraduate degree from Lamar University.
Her husband Griffin, who Walton says was her high school sweetheart, is also from Granbury. He is the son of attorney Maurice Walton and the nephew of retired 355th District Judge Ralph Walton.
The couple are raising three sons: Baird, who is in sixth grade; Sawyer, who is in fourth year; and Graham, a sophomore. They are active members of StoneWater Church.
A fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Baylor Bears, the new manager said her goals include academic excellence and engagement with families.
“It’s an area that we were really, really, really strong in for a long time and COVID kind of limited our ability to meaningfully engage,” Walton said. “So partnering with our families to ensure that our students achieve high levels of academic achievement is definitely my highest priority this school year.”
