Weekly Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Release – November 30, 2021

COMPLETE RELEASE

# PAC12MBB FROM FIVE:

2 – The second year of the Pac-12’s 20-game conference schedule is underway, the only league in the country in which the conference game has started.

  • COLORADO defeated STANFORD, 80-76, on Sunday, November 28 in the first conference game in league history.
  • 10 of the Conference’s first 12 games will take place this week, with the last of a dozen opening league games scheduled for December 12, when STANFORD hosts OREGON, followed by the remaining 108 games on the Pac-12 roster taking up the December 29.

3 – Three Pac-12 programs won multi-team event titles around the Thanksgiving holiday as ARIZONA won the Roman Main Event in Las Vegas, UTAH won the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach, Fla., And USC won. The Wooden Legacy in Los Angeles.

  • All three MTE titles are tied for the second most in a season for the Pac-12 with three in 2012-13. The Pac-12 won a record four MTE Championships in the 2017-18 season.
  • STANFORD will compete in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawai’i, December 22-25.

3 – For third consecutive week, three Pac-12 men’s basketball programs make Associated Press Top 25 as ARIZONA improved six spots to No.11, USC climbed four spots at No.20 and No.5 UCLA remained in the top 5.

  • This is the first week that three Pac-12 teams have appeared in the top 20 since the December 2, 2019 poll.
  • This is ARIZONA’s highest ranking since arriving at # 9 in the January 29, 2018 survey.

6-0 – ARIZONA and USC are 2 of 20 undefeated teams that remain in NCAA Division I until November 29.

  • The Wildcats are 6-0 for the second time in the past three seasons (started 9-0 in 2019-20), while the Trojans are enjoying their best start since 2016-17 (14-0).
  • In addition to its current winning streak, USC will also play the second longest Conference playoff streak on Saturday at WASHINGTON STATE – the Trojans have won 10 straight games since 2016 (13 – Utah v WSU).

PAC-12 MEN’S BASKETBALL INITIATIVES

YEAR 2 of the 20 GAMES CALENDAR IN 2021-2022; NEW 10-YEAR ANNUAL ROTATION

  • The Pac-12 moved to a 20-game league schedule in 2020-21 in an effort to add more competitive, higher-quality regional games to schedules and elevate the national brand of Pac-12 men’s basketball. . In addition to the second season of 20 league games, the Pac-12 unveiled in May 2021 a new annual rotation of opponents over 10 years for 2021-31. More details on pac12.me/21-22MBBsched.

NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE STANDARDS

  • The Pac-12 implemented non-conference programming standards starting with the 2020-21 season in an effort to improve the strength of the non-league program and increase the number of NCAA tournament selections. The standards include: (i) a five-year non-conference average of opponents’ NET ranking must be 175 or less, (ii) no participation in road buying games, (iii) no regular season games against non-Division I opponents; and (iv) no road game against a non-conference opponent with a five-year lag average of NET 200.

THE ALLIANCE

  • On August 24, the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 announced a historic alliance that will bring together 41 world-class institutions around a collaborative approach surrounding the future evolution of varsity athletics and programming. The alliance – which has been unanimously supported by the presidents, chancellors and athletic directors of the 41 institutions – will be guided in all cases by a commitment and priority to supporting the well-being of student-athletes, academic opportunities and sports, experiences and diverse educational programming. THE TITLE PAC-12 GAME MOVES TO FOX

  • The 2022 Pac-12 tournament championship game on Saturday, March 12 will be broadcast on FOX for the first time. The title contest will begin at 6 p.m. PT with one entry to the BIG EAST Championship. This will be the title game’s first broadcast on a broadcast network since 2012 (CBS).

PAC-12 US LBM COAST-TO-SIDE CHALLENGE

  • After canceling the planned 2020 quadrupleheader due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will launch the Pac-12 US LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge in 2021 – a unique non-conference programming event designed to provide opportunities for its programs against quality opponents in reputable markets across the country. PAC-12, SWAC CREATE A PARTNERSHIP

  • In 2022-2023, the Pac-12 and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) will launch an educational and programming agreement featuring one-of-a-kind home series. The men’s and women’s basketball partnership aims to create both a forum for competition, as well as promotion and education around issues of anti-racism and social justice. The partnership is expected to begin in November 2022, with six clashes set for the initial male cycle. More details at pac12.me/Pac-12-SWAC.

MCLENDON MINORITY LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

  • In July 2020, every Pac-12 men’s basketball coach pledged their support to participate in the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative to give minorities a boost in their careers through hands-on experiences, opportunities for network and instill John McLendon’s values: integrity, education, leadership and mentorship.

PAC-12, CHASE CENTER TO HOST NCAA WEST REGIONAL IN 2022 & 2025

  • The Pac-12 conference, the Chase Center and the Golden State Warriors will host this year’s NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on March 24-26, 2022. The groups will also serve as regional hosts. from the west in 2025.
  • This will be the first time the NCAA tournament has been played in the city of San Francisco since the West Regional was hosted at the California Coliseum on Treasure Island in March 1939. Daly City’s Cow Palace (1955, 1958-60), Oracle Oakland Arena (1990, 1995, 2006) and SAP Center in San Jose (1997, 2002, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2019) are among other Bay Area venues to host the tournament.
